Understanding Cosmodynes
Cosmodynes are mathematical algorithms that measure Astrological Power and Harmony and they determine which Planets, Signs, and Houses are the Strongest, the most Harmonious, and the most Discordant in an individual or entity.
Why do I care?
They give more shape and details to every vague description you've ever read about an Astrological placement(s). Their use enables you to cut through the noise and see which energies are most in play and their basic nature - harmonious or discrodant.
Skepticism: The greatest problem with most Astrological reports, (perhaps the reason for skepticism by the general public), is due to the order in which data is displayed. It is rare for one description in your Astrological Report to not contradict with another description within the report - and that is because the descriptions are meant to define the energy for the one placement or aspect or Sign on its own, without considering other things going on in the chart.
When using Cosmodynes, you can see which of two (or more) contradictory descriptions have the most Power, and thus the most significance in your chart. You can see which aspects between planets have the most significance and can tell by those metrics which descriptions you should pay the most attention to.
Describing the quality of an Astrological aspect is difficult. Describing any kind of intangible thing that can't be seen (like describing the color blue to a blind person), requires using analogy and contrasts to other things of which we are aware. Language can only go so far, and in an age where "TLDR" is an accepted response for not reading something, Cosmodynes help to fill the gap. Perhaps even one day, these very techniques, with the help of Aritifical Intelligence, will replace consultative Astrological sessions altogether.
Our (Free) Reports are Better
$50 Astrological reports (found elsewhere) on the Internet start with the traditional order - Sun, Moon Mercury, Venus, Mars, and so on. That is the wrong order, unless that is the order in which your planets are the most powerful (from highest to lowest - which is as unlikely as winning the lotto).
MatchMachine's (free) reports show you your most powerful placements first in your reports - enabling you to see which energies are most at play.
When it comes to compatibility reporting, we use the same logic - you see the most important (the most Powerful) aspects first. Why pay attention to a particularly bad aspect if there isn't any Power to it? Even the most promising synastry charts have a few irritating or downright awful aspects, but if the power for that aspect is low compared other aspects, why let that keep you from pursing happiness? Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Cosmodynes: Units of Astrological Power
Cosmodynes compute astrological units of power and calculate the quality (positive or negative) of that power.
Just as electrical power is measured in watts and physical energy is measured in joules or ergs, MatchMachine uses Cosmodynes to measure astrological power and the positive or negative quality of the power. Each planet, sign, and house in any astrological chart has power associated with it. Cosmodynes is the technique that quantifies that power and gives you insight into which energies really define someone or something. From a listing of these Cosmodynes you can very quickly tell which planets, signs, and houses in a chart are more powerful and which are relatively weak.
Cosmodynes tell you which descriptions have more weight.
Not everyone's Sun Sign has the most power - Capricorn Sun descriptions paint a picture of stability, but if their Uranus is strongest, you can be certain that their natural mode is of erratic behavior.
NOTE: You cannot directly compare the raw power and harmony/discord cosmodyne numbers from one person's chart to another, but you can compare the percentages of the total that each planet, sign, and house has.
Power and Harmony/Discord: Cosmodynes and Their Components
There is more to consider. There is the matter of harmony and discord. All planets, signs, and houses have a harmodyne or discordyne component as well as a cosmodyne (power) component. In other words, there is always a harmony or discord associated with the power of each planet, sign, or house.
Harmodynes measure the amount of harmony a planet, sign, or house has, while discordynes measure the amount of discord or inharmony a planet, sign, or house has. This is important information when reading a chart because you need to know how the energies of planets, signs, and houses are likely to work out. In other words, will those energies be used harmoniously or inharmoniously, will the energies likely attract harmony or resistance (discord) from the environment, thus tending to bring positive results or negative results, respectively.
Ruling Planet: Significance of the Planet with the Most Cosmodynes
The planet with the most cosmodynes is the ruler of the chart, as it depicts the strongest energy potential. Why is power so important? The strongest planets in a chart indicate those aptitudes that can be cultivated most easily into abilities. What about harmony and discord? The best (most harmonious) planets show the things with which the individual can associate to bring good fortune.
Houses: The Strength and Harmony of Environments and Areas of Life
The strongest and most harmonious houses emphasize environments or areas of life where the person will find it easier to practice his vocation, the extent that department of life will be active in the individual's life, and the harmony or discord (environmental resistance) that may be expected in that department of life.
Signs: Natural Instincts and Motivations
The signs give a picture of the natural, instinctive motivations (likes and dislikes, attitudes and reactions) and enable one to judge whether or not a vocation, among other things, will bring personal satisfaction.
Application: Example of Using Cosmodynes in Determining Aptitudes for Writing
To give an example, research has shown that in order for a person to be successful as a writer that person should have a strong Mercury (the planet of communication and writing - the Moon, Jupiter, and Uranus are also planets associated with writing), a strong third house (the house of writing), and a strong 9th house (the house of publishing).
Remember, strength in a chart is shown by the number of cosmodynes a planet, sign, or house has. Additionally, it would certainly be hoped that Mercury and the 3rd and 9th houses had as many harmodynes (units of harmony) as possible. This, of course, would tend to make all efforts and actions work out along positive lines rather than negative lines and these actions would receive less resistance from the environment. Going with the flow is easier than trying to go against the flow, right?
