Neptune in Scorpio

Neptune in Scorpio

1956-1970

Neptune, known as a "generational planet", spends about 14 years in each zodiac sign, influencing each generation with its characteristic themes.

In astrology, Neptune symbolizes spirituality, idealism, dreams, illusions, and the subconscious. It also represents escapism, mind-altering substances, lack of boundaries, deception, and confusion. It prompts us to go beyond the material world, tapping into our intuition and imagination. Neptune brings creativity, compassion, idealism, and mysticism, urging us towards higher truths and emotional depths. However, it can also create illusions and blur the line between reality and fantasy.

Scorpio, a Water sign, symbolizes transformation, regeneration, power, secrets, and the mysteries of life and death. Governed by Mars and Pluto, Scorpio embodies intensity, resourcefulness, and deep emotional depth.

Scorpio is a sign that dives head-first into the unknown. Those with Scorpio placements are generally unafraid of what's hidden beneath the surface and have a natural inclination towards the mystical, the unseen, and transformative processes.

When spiritually-inclined Neptune is placed in intense and transformative Scorpio, you get a generation that are seekers of the truth that lies beneath the surface and are unafraid to explore the depths of the subconscious, the spiritual, and the taboo.

Neptune was last in Scorpio:

October 19, 1956, to June 15, 1957

August 6, 1957, to January 4, 1970

Those born between 1956-1970 are of the Neptune in Scorpio generation, (they represent the majority of the same folks born during Pluto's ingress into Virgo, 1956-1972).

This generation, often labeled as Generation X, grew up during significant periods of social, political, and cultural changes such as the Civil Rights Movement, Vietnam War, and the rise of the counterculture.

Influenced by Neptune in Scorpio, Gen X sought to penetrate beneath the surface of societal norms. This generation is known for its exploration into alternative and sub-cultures, such as the punk, grunge, and Goth movements, characterized by a rejection of mainstream society and a quest for deeper truths and transformative experiences. The Neptune in Scorpio influence can be seen in their attraction to darker, complex themes in music, film, and literature.

In terms of spirituality, this generation was among the first to explore eastern philosophies, new age thought, and occult practices in large numbers, demonstrating Scorpio's fascination with the mysterious and Neptune's connection with spirituality and the subconscious. Gen X's focus on individuality, personal freedom, and authenticity can be traced back to Neptune's influence in Scorpio, urging them to dig deep into the subconscious to uncover their authentic selves and live in alignment with their own truth, rather than societal expectations.

Gen X also witnessed and was significantly shaped by historical events such as the Watergate scandal and the fall of the Berlin Wall, events that reinforced their natural skepticism towards authority (a Scorpio trait) and their disillusionment with societal structures (a Neptune trait).

All in all, Gen X, marinated in the cosmic cocktail of Neptune and Scorpio, became a generation of truth seekers, unafraid to explore the deeper, darker corners of the human experience. Their influence can be seen in today's societal openness towards alternative lifestyles, spirituality, and a deeper understanding of the human psyche.

Your position of Neptune by sign is shared with other people in the same generation due to Neptune’s slow movement through the heavens – spending roughly 14 years through each sign. It becomes more personal when aspecting one of your personal planets or luminaries, such as the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars.

The energies of those aspects (and their House placements) are those we use to envision our idea of an ideal world.  Transits to your Neptune, especially from the outer planets, greatly affect its expression as well.
