Uranus in Leo

Leo the Lion tinkering with his electronic invention

Uranus in Leo

Uranus is all about innovating and challenging and updating the status quo.  It overhauls or even breaks systems, processes, traditions, and laws (the things of Saturn). Uranus is associated with electricity, inventions, shocking changes in paradigms, but most of all, it’s about rebuking the old systems and renovating for the new.

People with strong Uranus energy in their chart are particularly forward-thinking and innovative (or unstable) in their thought processes and communication.  The Sign and House in which Uranus resides point to the way in which one wants to rebel against and “update” whichever themes the Sign and House represent.

Uranus in Leo Meaning

With Uranus in Leo, you are most progressive and interested in improving, innovating, and revamping traditions and systems that have to do with recreation, love, romance, hobbies, amusement, children, artistic pursuits, and self-expression.

You have clear and creative ideas for how these things need to be updated, and if your Uranus is well-aspected and harmonious, you can lead others to help you achieve your visions.  As with all things associated with Leo, you must be aware that stubborn and self-centered attitudes can spoil any momentum you may gain in leading others to assist you in your goals.

Advances achieved when Uranus was last in Leo:

Uranus rules inventions, electricity, and electronics in general, but especially electronic communications.  Leo rules the entertainment industry and amusement in general.  When Uranus was last in Leo, many significant breakthroughs radically altered how we consumed entertainment.

Transistor radio: Radios finally became portable.  The first commercially successful transistor radio, the Regency TR-1, was introduced in 1954, and over the next few years, portable transistor radios became increasingly popular.

One of the first televisions from 1927

The rise of television: Television was invented in 1927, but TV sets only became widely available and affordable in the mid-1950s with half of US households owning one, and by the 1960s, they were a common household item.  Many popular movies and shows from this period were adapted for television, and many new shows and movies were produced specifically for television.

The emergence of rock and roll: Rock and roll emerged, turning the music industry on its head.  Many popular artists, such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry, became household names during this time.

The rise of independent film: The independent film movement began to grow during this period, and many independent filmmakers made their mark on the industry.  Some notable examples include John Cassavetes and Roger Corman.

Integrated circuit: The first integrated circuit, or microchip, was invented by Jack Kilby at Texas Instruments in 1958. This technology greatly improved the performance and reliability of electronic devices, and it has had a significant impact on the development of modern computers and other electronic devices.

More about Uranus…

Uranus takes approximately seven years to transit through a sign; 84 years to go around the Sun.  Unless your Uranus is near a sign cusp, anyone within 2-5 years of your age is likely to have Uranus in the same Sign.

The noticeable differences in how Uranus is expressed by someone are due to the house placement and the number of aspects that Uranus makes with the other planets in one’s chart, especially the faster-moving personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus).  The more aspects (angles) made with other planets in your makeup, the more strength it has, and the more prominently your Uranian energy is expressed.

In Astrology, the outer planets are often seen as having a “hierarchy” or spiritual evolution over the inner planets, and are considered as the higher octave of certain inner “personal” planets.  Uranus is considered to be the higher octave of Mercury because it expands on the themes and energies associated with Mercury.  Mercury is associated with communication, thinking, and the exchange of information, while Uranus takes these things to the next level and integrates the thought processes and communicative action of Mercury into a cause that tends to benefit all of humanity.

So, in a sense, Uranus takes the qualities of Mercury and expands on them, adding a broader, more universal perspective and points to where the desire for progress and evolution are met with the least resistance according to the associations of the Sign in which Uranus resides.
