Uranus in Taurus

(1934-1942) & (2018-2026)

Uranus is all about innovating, changing, and rebelling against the status quo.  It disrupts unpredictably, and does so on a grand scale.

It overhauls or even breaks systems, processes, traditions, and laws (the things of Saturn). Uranus is associated with electricity and electronic communication, unpredictability, inventions, and shocking changes in paradigms, but most of all, it’s about rebuking the old systems and renovating for the new.

Taurus is the first Earth Sign in the Zodiac.  It symbolizes agriculture and mining, material possessions and financial stability, money itself, traditional values, earthly delights, and animalistic appetites – all things we need to maintain our bodies, creature comforts, and our resources to afford them.

When the disrupter (Uranus) meets Taurus, we see worldwide disruptions in global finance, money, credit, food supplies, and other goods we need to run our lives.

People being born right now and until 2026 have Uranus in Taurus.  Let’s look at the previous generation, which had Uranus/Taurus, to gather some clues for what this current generation will experience and rebel against.

Enter, the “Silent Generation”, the previous Uranus in Taurus generation (1928-1942):

Those of the Silent Generation are the children of the Great Depression and World War II.  The Great Depression began with the stock market crash of 1929 and subsequent bank failures, which led to little confidence in the financial system and a lack of access to credit.

Widespread drought in the Midwest led to food shortages and high prices for basic necessities, such as bread, milk, and eggs. Many people struggled to afford enough food to feed themselves and their families, and many went hungry.

As a cultural narrative, their parents, having reveled in the luxurious highs of the Roaring Twenties, now faced great economic hardship and struggled to provide for their families.  For these children, the things of Taurus (food/money) were shockingly no longer there as it was for their parents.  Before reaching their teens, they shared with their parents the horrors of World War II but through children’s eyes.

The Silent Generation grew up in the bleakest of times and it clearly showed…

“The most startling fact about the younger generation is its silence.  With some rare exceptions, youth is nowhere near the rostrum.  By comparison with the Flaming Youth of their fathers & mothers, today’s younger generation is a still, small flame.  It does not issue manifestoes, make speeches or carry posters.  It has been called the “Silent Generation.” - Time Magazine, 1951

Thankfully, the horrors of the Great Depression spurred President Franklin D. Roosevelt's “New Deal” into law in 1935, providing a series of welfare programs, and financial reforms, giving birth to the U.S.’s first social safety nets, mainly the Social Security program we are familiar with today.

*It is interesting to note that the previous Uranus in Taurus generation was born during the Great Depression and World War II, and this present-day Uranus/Taurus generation has spent at least half of their lives in quarantine due to Covid lockdowns and/or half of their lives witnessing the first war in Europe since the last time Uranus was in Taurus.  And, much like those of the last Uranus in Taurus generation (the Silent Generation), this generation has endured similar circumstances of a silencing nature - worldwide lockdowns and mask wearing.

Advances we’re witnessing now with

Uranus (electronics and electronic communications) &

Taurus (money, goods, natural resources):

Blockchain Technology: Since 2018, the use of blockchain technology and the adoption of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (electronically communicated money) have become increasingly mainstream.  Blockchains are now being used to track supply chains and inventories with efficiencies and cost savings never seen before.  In a case study, Walmart reduced the time to track Mangoes from 7 days to 2.2 seconds, for instance.

Fintech: The rise of fintech (financial technology) companies has disrupted traditional banking and financial services, offering new and innovative solutions for managing money and making transactions.

ESG investing: Also known as "green investing" or "sustainable investing," refers to investment strategies that consider the environmental impact of investments. The goal is to generate returns while also having a positive impact on the environment. The concept of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) has been around for several decades, but it has gained significant attention and momentum in recent years. The roots of ESG can be traced back to the 1960s and 1970s, when concerns about environmental degradation and social inequality began to emerge as important issues.  Today, the main thrust of these investments go towards creating and delivering electricity in environmentally clean ways (wind, solar).

Contactless Payment: The use of contactless payment systems, such as near field communication (NFC) and QR codes, has become more widespread, allowing consumers to make purchases with a simple tap of their credit card or smartphone.

Quantum Computing: Computing (Uranus) that depends on the physical state of things (Taurus), has had many “firsts” since Uranus entered Taurus.  The company IonQ introduced the first commercially available trapped-ion quantum computer.  Google announced their 72-qubit quantum chip call the “Bristlecone”, achieving a new record.

Uranus takes approximately seven years to transit through a sign; 84 years to go around the Sun.  Unless your Uranus is near a sign cusp, anyone within 2-5 years of your age is likely to have Uranus in the same Sign.

The noticeable differences in how Uranus is expressed by someone are due to the house placement and the number of aspects that Uranus makes with the other planets in one’s chart, especially the faster-moving personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mars, Venus).  The more aspects (angles) made with other planets in your makeup, the more strength it has, and the more prominently your Uranian energy is expressed.

In Astrology, the outer planets are often seen as having a “hierarchy” or spiritual evolution over the inner planets, and are considered as the higher octave of certain inner “personal” planets.  Uranus is considered to be the higher octave of Mercury because it expands on the themes and energies associated with Mercury.  Mercury is associated with communication, thinking, and the exchange of information, while Uranus takes these things to the next level and integrates the thought processes and communicative action of Mercury into a cause that tends to benefit all of humanity.

So, in a sense, Uranus takes the qualities of Mercury and expands on them, adding a broader, more universal perspective and points to where the desire for progress and evolution are met with the least resistance according to the associations of the Sign in which Uranus resides.
